"Clear signal to Ukraine and the Russian Federation": EU prepares a "security obligation" project for Kiev, - FT

Ukraine, if allies make a unanimous decision, can receive long -term funding, military support and intelligence, which will help to effectively reflect the aggression of the Russian Federation. The European Union prepares Ukraine's proposal for "future security obligations" due to the fact that Western leaders are looking for reconciliation for long -term promises, Kyiv data, against the background of increasing instability in Moscow. About it reports FT.

On Thursday, June 29, there will be a summit of EU leaders, which pushed the bloc's leaders to discuss the level of support of the necessary support against the background of recent events, including a military rebellion in the Russian Federation and the Ukrainian counter -offensive.

France, Germany, Britain and the United States will lead the efforts to agree on bilateral security agreements to provide Ukraine with long -term funding, military support, training for the Armed Forces and intelligence that will help Kiev repel the Russian invasion.

These obligations, according to the publication, do not correspond to the level of agreements on the mutual defense, alleged in the case of Ukraine's membership in NATO, but they will allow Kiev confidence in the willingness of the event to provide him with further support.

One of the diplomats who participated in the discussion told the publication that France developed a declaration aimed at "a very clear political signal" of Ukraine and Russia, which demonstrates the interest of EU countries in expanding the security system in Ukraine. However, the proposal met with resistance from Austria, Ireland and Malta, neutral EU countries that require clarity, which may mean such "obligations".

The journalists got acquainted with the project of the statement and noted that the EU and its Member States "ready to make their contribution to the future security obligations of Ukraine, which will help Kiev to protect themselves in the long run, to restrain the acts of aggression and to confront attempts to destabilize.

" The document notes that the work provides for the consideration of the mechanisms of such a contribution, taking into account the "security policy and defense of certain Member States". The text also allows you to make changes to the adoption. "We are already making a lot of security obligations," the EU diplomat said, referring to the financial support of Kiev by the EU.

According to the Prime Minister of Estonia Kai Callas, each of the allies himself makes a decision on his contribution to this process. "But it is important that we say that this is our common way. We work (on the wording - ed. ) We do not want it to be empty words," Callas said. Recall that recently it became known that the European Union will provide 45% of all Ukraine's needs for financing until 2027. This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen.
