Share: On October 23, the Russian side returned 1,000 bodies of dead citizens to Ukraine, assuring them that they were Ukrainian servicemen. In the near future, law enforcement investigators together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will conduct all necessary examinations and identification of repatriated bodies, reports the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

The repatriation measures were carried out as a result of the joint work of the staff of the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights and the Secretariat of the Commissioner for the Circumstances of Missing Persons, Security and Defense of Ukraine and other organizations.

The last time the Russian Federation returned the bodies of the dead to Ukraine was in July, also 1,000 people. Then the repatriation measures took place thanks to the agreements in Istanbul. Ukraine received the bodies of soldiers of the Armed Forces, and the Russian side received 19 bodies of its own soldiers. Another exchange of bodies took place in June: 1,200 dead were returned to Ukraine.
