They change the laws: Russians want to select property for criticism of war - British intelligence

According to analysts, the State Duma has already begun to consider a bill that provides for confiscation of financial assets. The authorities want to minimize criticism towards hostilities in Ukraine. The Russian authorities intend to seize property from their citizens if they continue to criticize the occupiers and the war as a whole. This is stated in the Intelligence of the UK Ministry of Defense of January 24.

According to analysts, the State Duma of the Russian Federation began to discuss the relevant bill. It envisages confiscation of financial assets, including the property of those citizens who criticize the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and fighting in Ukraine. In British intelligence, they added that in the last few months, some Russian writers and musicians have already been condemned because of criticism.

"In July 2022, President of Russia Putin approved amendments to the 2012 Law on Foreign Agency, which came into force on December 1, 2022. This law is widely used for the repression of the opponents of the regime. In 2023, 217 people and organizations were recognized as foreign agents. As of November 3, 2023, according to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, a total list of "foreign agents" was 707 people, " - the message reads.

The list of "foreign agents" in Russia also includes independent news publications and human rights organizations. In this regard, many of them were forced to change the location and move outside Russia. Analysts added that changes in the legislation are aimed at restraining the Russians and forcing the anti -war opposition to remain silent about crimes in Ukraine.

"This recent bill, combined with the law on foreign agents, is likely to completely limit the criticism of the war," - summed up in British intelligence.
