Russia will try to use elections in Europe against Ukraine - US State Department

According to a representative of the US State Department, the main threats of this year were in Europe, which from the very beginning united in confrontation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and provided military and other assistance to Kiev.

Head of the Department for Combating Misinformation in the State Department of the United States Jamie Rubin stated that the US side claims that Russia plans to carry out information measures to influence public opinion in different European countries before the upcoming elections, in order to form a negative attitude towards Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters.

"We believe that the Russians will conduct information operations across Europe to try to change the idea of Ukraine during this election season," he said. According to Rubin, Russia and China are actively working on the world stage, making efforts to represent state propaganda as independent journalism, while hiding its true source. Although Rubin did not specify the specific countries that are concerned, he noted that the main threats in the current year were associated with Europe.

The region initially combined efforts in confronting the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, providing Kiev military and other support. "Russia hopes that the election this year can change the situation in Europe, which has a wonderful coalition and disciplined opposition before its war (in Ukraine)," Rubin said.
