Putin announced the "Poseidon" test: Russia activated a nuclear submarine

Share: Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia has successfully tested the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle with a nuclear power plant. According to him, the device was launched for the first time from a nuclear submarine-carrier. As RIA Novosti reports, during a speech at the P. V. Mandrik Central Military Clinical Hospital in Moscow, Putin noted that the tests took place the day before.

"Yesterday, we conducted another test of another promising complex - the Poseidon unmanned underwater product, also with a nuclear power plant. For the first time, it was possible not only to launch it from a carrier submarine with a starter motor, but also to launch a nuclear power plant, on which the device passed a certain number of times," said Vladimir Putin. According to Putin, there are no systems in the world capable of intercepting such a device.

According to him, "Poseidon" is distinguished by unique characteristics in terms of speed and depth of movement, and similar technologies are not expected in the near future. According to open sources, the Poseidon is an unmanned, nuclear-powered underwater vehicle that can operate at great depths and potentially create a destructive wave when detonated near the coast. The device is 20 meters long, 1. 8 meters in diameter, and weighs about 100 tons.
