Reduce Ukraine's support: Belgium is worried about Russian intervention in elections

Europeans would like to punish Russian agents who intervene in the elections to the European Parliament. The main purpose of these agents is to compromise the idea of democracy and reduce the assistance of Ukrainians. Belgium plans to punish the FSB agents of the Russian Federation who tried to influence elections to the European Parliament. This has taken appropriate changes to the legislation, since such cases were impossible.

Other EU institutions have been warned about the threat: they urge to find and neutralize Russian activists. The details of the political scandal in Belgium and the EU were told on the Bloomberg portal. The portal told about the statement of Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander de Croo. The politician reported that government officials got acquainted with the secret report on the work of Russian special services.

After that, the prosecutor's office opened criminal proceedings on the crime - interference with elections to the European Parliament. "Our judicial authorities have now confirmed that this intervention is subject to court," he said. Until recently, Belgium did not exist laws that could be punished for interference in the election process, - the journalists explained. But a few weeks after information on the Kremlin network, the relevant legislative innovations were adopted.

As where Croo explained, the situation threatens the election process in the European Union. Therefore, he appealed to the relevant institutions that should stop it. The Belgian politician has listed who could stop the Russian interference in the elections: Euras, EU Agency for Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Cases, European Prosecutor's Office. Belgium Prime Minister also explained what the purpose of Russian agents is the collapse of democracy and reducing assistance to Ukraine.

"The only goal is to weaken European democracy and weaken Ukraine's support, which is one of Russia's goals," De Croo said. It should be noted that in April 2024 the Czech Republic's special services reported that they exposed the Russian network of agents that were operating. The special agents of the Russian Federation were relevant to the information portal "Voice of Europe". The portal and social networks were distributed with Russian propaganda.

The purpose of the FSB agents is to influence the elections in the European Parliament, which will be held in early June 2024. One of the first to warn the Czechs responded in Belgium. Law enforcement officers found that political agents of the Russian Federation also operate in this country. Earlier, Focus wrote about other investigations into the propaganda network of the Russian Federation, which operated in Europe and not only there.

In particular, in November 2023, French law enforcement officers told the Doppelgänger community, whose members distributed fakes about Gaza events. Among other things, they created fake portals of news, similar to the sites of famous agencies, and wrote false messages there. In February 2024, it became known how much paid speakers who broadcast the messages needed the Kremlin. According to investigators, the amounts reached up to $ 40 thousand. - So much was worth publication in reputable media.
