Armed Forces Assistance for 5 billion euros: Borrel on new suggestions for Ukraine (video)

The head of European diplomacy has proposed a new military assistance package for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and hopes for its approval by the end of the year. The High Representative of the European Union on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrel, has offered a new bilateral package of European peace fund up to 5 billion euros as military assistance to Ukraine for 2024.

He reported this on October 2 at a briefing in Kiev, where the Summit of the Foreign Ministry of the EU countries takes place. "Today we have discussed comprehensive support of Ukraine: from the point of view of security; from the military side; about the entry into the EU and the process of reforms; about accountability; the formula of peace," - said Borrel in his own account on X (former Twitter).

According to Borrel, this will be a supplement to the funds that the European Union is ready to discuss within the broader negotiations on the total budget by 2027. "The EU's obligation is clear, and our support continues in all dimensions. I hope we will be able to reach the agreement by the end of the year," he said.

In addition, the diplomat announced that in the coming months it is planned to teach 40,000 Ukrainians, including fighter pilots, as well as focus on strengthening the cyber defense of Ukraine and its defense sector. "Let's see what happens in the US, but on our part we will continue to support and increase our support," Borrel said, answering questions about Vashington's vote.

The summit, which opened today, October 2, was attended by 27 European countries, which are the only block in support of Ukraine. This is the first such meeting outside the Union, which, according to the head of the foreign policy department Dmitry Kuleba, indicates the commitment of the block to the expansion and accession of Ukraine in the EU.

"We are going to a historical meeting of EU foreign ministers here, in Ukraine, candidate country and future EU member," said the EU Supreme Representative Josep Borrel, and called the summit an important signal of European support from Kyiv.

Dmitry Kuleba noted that there were many difficult moments on the way of creating the European Union when the founding parents of the EU and their successors could doubt success because the task was too complicated and expensive and its results were not guaranteed. "If you believe in what you do, you will always find the strength to move forward. Russian aggression against Ukraine cannot end with a draw. Aggression must be defeated. The guilty must be punished.

Justice, freedom and dignity should win. We cannot afford to afford Skepsis, fatigue, half a decision or east from a distance. So we continue, continue: there is no other future for the peoples of Europe other than in unity with Ukraine, "he said. We will remind that on September 30, Josep Borrel visited the destroyed cathedral in Odessa. He stated that the place where he is, clearly demonstrates how Russia is trying to destroy Ukraine.
