Russia can create the conditions for a nuclear incident after the OPPC - Minister Galushchenko

The head of the Ministry of Energy stressed that, by firing objects of Ukrainian energy infrastructure, which provide electricity supply and other nuclear power plants, Russia poses additional nuclear threats to the world. Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko believes that the Russian Federation can create conditions that will lead to a nuclear incident after the de -occupation of Zaporizhzhya NPP by Ukrainian defenders.

He stated this during a meeting with the Head of the European Union delegation, Deputy Director General for Energy of the European Commission Massimo Hariba, within the 67th session of the IAEA General Conference General, which took place in Vienna, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reports. The parties discussed the areas of cooperation to strengthen the energy, nuclear and radiation security of the European continent.

The minister noted that the situation around the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (ZPP) is quite tense. It poses a potential threat to nuclear security not only of Ukraine but the entire European continent. He stated that there is no international experience and protocols of renewal of NPPs after armed conflicts. For this reason, the situation at the ZPP is unique and needs special attention.

Herman Galushchenko is concerned that the occupiers can create conditions that will lead to a nuclear incident after the Zaporizhzhya NPP. The head of the Ministry of Energy noted that in order to prevent it, it is important to organize an international mission that will be able to check the object and be convinced of the safety of the NPP. He emphasized that the actions of the Russian Federation are nuclear terrorism and the civilized world should respond decisively.
