Instead of Russia. In Africa, they plan to build an underwater gas ghost from Nigeria to Morocco to supply gas to the EU - map

Nigeria and Morocco can connect the world's longest underwater gas. It will be able to supply natural gas from Africa to the EU, which reduces purchases from Russian Gazprom. Last week, a memorandum of understanding on a gas pipeline project connecting Nigeria to Morocco was signed in Rabat (Morocco). It will also supply natural gas to West Africa and Europe.

Video of the day was signed by the heads of Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Moroccan Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (Onhym) and an official of the Ecowas ECowas Economic Community (ECowas). This is stated in a joint statement by the signatories. The signed text "confirms the obligations of ECowas and all involved countries to promote the implementation of this important project," the statement reads.

African media reports that the project is carried out in a geopolitical context, which is marked by high international demand for gas and oil and a sharp increase in prices after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The project will affect 16 Africa countries. The 6000 km gas ghost will cross 13 African countries along the Atlantic coast, as well as supply gas to countries that do not have access to the sea: Niger, Burkina-Faso and Mali. The gasket power is expected to be 5 billion cubic meters.

m of gas per year. In the future, it will be connected to the Magrib-Europe (MEG), which connects Morocco and Spain. The cost of the project is estimated at $ 25 billion, which can be funded from different sources. It was first known about it at the end of 2016. However, there are no specific implementation terms of the project.

At the end of July this year, the energy ministers of Algeria, Nigeria and Nigeria signed a memorandum on mutual understanding of the implementation of a competing mega -project of a transcetric gas pipeline (TSGP) more than 4000 km long to transport Nigerian gas to Europe through Niger and Algeria. Nigeria ranks first in Africa with natural gas reserves. Explored gas reserves in Nigeria - not less than 5. 8 trillion cubic meters, projected - up to 17 trillion cubic meters.
