Rostech will put new engines on SU-57: what will it give Russian aircraft

Probably, the AL-51F1 power plant will provide a cruising speed of the machine up to 680 meters per second, which is one of the excellent opportunities for 5th generation fighters. In 2024, the Russian Joint Aviation Corporation (OAC) intends to start supplying a modernized multi-purpose Su-57 fighter, which will be equipped with a new AL-51F1 engine, previously known as "product 30". This was made possible by the successful test that, according to Rostech, "exceeded all expectations.

" Bulgarian Military in the material dated February 1 has been told about what opportunities that open before the SU-57M with a new power plant. First of all, it is reported that the new AL-51F1 engine provides a powerful draft of 11,000 kg and a foster thrust of 18,000 kg.

Thanks to this modernization, the Su-57 can now develop a cruising speed of 2 Mach (680 meters per second), while significantly reducing its visibility in the infrared range, which is a decisive advantage compared to its predecessor. Currently, the Russian Su-57 is equipped with AL-41F1 engine or its modified version of AL-41F1C. This has become an important factor in the plan that the Su-57 did not actually become a 5th generation fighter.

The fact is that these engines did not allow Su-57 to fly at supersonic cruising speed without a uniforms, which is one of the excellent capabilities of the 5th generation machines. Now AL-51F1 appeared, which, according to some experts, became revolutionary. The Russian SU-57 was criticized due to the lack of S-shaped air intakes that significantly increase the effective scattering area (EPR).

However, another technical strategy is implemented in the machine to compensate for the absence of these air intakes. Specialists of OKB "Sukhoi" did not neglect S-channel, they chose a different approach caused by the features of engines. In the latest photos of the SU-57, the air intakes were either carefully separated or completely hidden, since the turbine blades were not visible. As it turned out, the S-shaped channel in this embodiment will not be used horizontally.

Therefore, the turbine blades are shielded with a special type of grate, a coaxial radar blocker, similar to the fact that is installed on the F-117. Viewers say that the new AL-51F1 engine can revive another project of the Russians Su-75 Checkmate. According to Viceremier of the Russian Federation Yuriy Borisov at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (PMF), SU-75 plans to make his first test flight in mid-2025.
