More than 300 billion euros: in Estonia they want to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine

The publication states that the issue of using Russian funds as compensation for Ukraine has long been considered. However, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Urmas Rinsal, the frozen resources of the Russian Federation are in a "suspended state". It is about 300 billion euros of reserves of the Russian Central Bank. In addition, the countries of the European Union, including Estonia, have frozen at about 19 billion euros belonging to Russian oligarchs.

Urmas Rinsal believes that politicians should develop a legal basis for further use of this money for the post -war restoration of Ukraine. "Frost means that the property, let's say, stands. In the figuratively speaking, it is in a suspended state," Rainsal stated. According to the minister, a similar step could significantly weaken the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia noted that the alienation of property in the EU is possible under the court decision and added that from a political point of view it is "extremely necessary" to be done. "The international rule is that the harm that has caused the harm must compensate for it. That is, it is necessary to create a mechanism of compensation," Rainsal said. The government is expected to receive a specific list of proposals on this issue within the next month.

It should be reminded that according to the Vicecanzler of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Mart Volmer, the proposal of Ukraine to exclude the Russian Federation from the UN Security Council, voiced on December 26, will not find support in most countries.
