The frame of reporters entered 122 mm ammunition to the jet systems, which are marked, similar to North Korean. Meanwhile, it cannot be said with complete confidence that these ammunition was guaranteed in the DPRK, the analyst said. "Rockets and markings are very similar to R-122 HE missiles made by North Korea, however, because of the slight differences to make a clear conclusion very difficult," the author of the publication wrote on Twitter.
At the same time, "Militar" observers noted that if you compare the photos of the North Korean shells, which were captured on the Iranian vessel in 2009, and the current photos, the inscriptions are almost the same. "The inscriptions on the shells and the R-12 H index are fully the same. There are differences in the last line where the series and the date of manufacture are marked," experts emphasized.
At the same time, they specified that the projectile in the hands of the Ukrainian fighter, apparently, was released in 1995. "It is unknown how the Ammunition of the DPR was armed with the Ukrainian forces. It is a fairly closed country to the world and its government has repeatedly expressed support for Russian occupation of Ukrainian territories by Russia," experts wrote.
They suggested that such ammunition could, as an option, get from Western allies, who periodically intercepts smugglers who were carrying weapons to terrorists in the Middle East. It is also impossible to exclude the variant of resale of such shells through third countries, but in any case the presence of ammunition with such a marking indicates a sharp lack of 122 mm jet shells for the Armed Forces fighters, experts summed up.
