The Armed Forces will receive the second Skynex battery: is it enough for Ukraine - Defense Express

Skynex, SKYNEX manufacturer reported on the start of two batteries in December 2022. It took one year to perform the order. Ukraine will soon receive the second Skynex air defense battery, but this does not mean that the Armed Forces will significantly increase the number of tools for killing Russian rockets and Dronov-Kamikadze Shahd-136. The installations are able to neutralize targets at admiration distances and protect the object of critical infrastructure.

The details of new military assistance from Germany were told on the Defense Express portal. The experts of the portal noted that the German government reported to provide Ukraine with Skynex batteries. In fact, it is a second of two batteries promised by RheinMetall manufacturer in December 2022. Entrepreneurs then reported that they received a contract with a total value of 182 million euros for two Skynex air defense systems.

The Defense Express explained what it means to obtain the second of the two promised batteries for Ukraine: experts also noted why they believe that the first Skynex battery is already in Ukraine. In particular, they mentioned the statement by a representative of Rheinmetall Italia, made in January 2024. According to the entrepreneur, the delivery took place at the end of 2023 in accordance with the agreement concluded in December 2022.

Skynex is an anti-aircraft missile complex produced by the German company Rheinmetall. The development was known in November 2021. During the presentation, the system was able to destroy a swarm of drones. In addition to AHEAD, which are not straightened by the HIT, there is another advantage. In particular, one target, knocked down by Skynex, costs 4 thousand euros, while the target knocked out by IRIS/t costs two orders of magnitude more-300-500 thousand euros.

Rheinmetall's YouTube channel showed how Skynex air defense system works. The video does not have real work frames. Instead, there is an animation that illustrates the possibility of protecting cities and oil production plants from air threats - aviation missiles, maritime missile missiles. The complex consists of a control console, a network of sensors, radar and starting installations.

It should be noted that on April 23, experts told what else the air defense systems have a chance to get Ukraine. In addition to Parat SCK, a number of other names were heard: IRIS-T SLM, SAMP/T, RBS 70, C-300. For systems to protect against Russian rockets and drones, Western partners are negotiating with Greece, Spain, Sweden and others.
