Trons-interceptors have changed the war in Ukraine: how they are used and what to wait further

To spread: the emergence of drones of drones has become a revolutionary event that changed the course of war in Ukraine at HIMARS, FPV-Kamikadze and sea drones, although it became invisible to most Ukrainians. In its article, the "militaristic" edition revealed how devices such as they are used and what to expect in the future are created. Ukrainian developers presented the first project of the drone-interceptor called the Fowler ("Birds") in October 2022.

The model had to attack targets at an altitude of up to 1000 m, flying up to 1500 m, this would be enough to hunt Mavic commercial drones, but its capabilities are not enough to intercept intelligence enemy UAVs like "Orlan". Because of this, Fowler was not used massively.

In February 2024, the Ajax Unmanned Driving Systems Unit of the 126th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade for the first time in history was able to knock down the drone of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation using the FPV Dron. Other Ukrainian fighters were inspired by an example and one by one began to use the so -called "anti -aircraft" drones.

In May, the first video of intercepting Russian reconnaissance drone 421-16e appeared on the network, and in June the Armed Forces, with the help of such means, destroyed many reconnaissance unmanned Zala, "Orlan-10" aircraft and even lanceet ammunition. After launching the Dronopad initiatives, return alive and the heavenly Russourist volunteer Sergei Sternenko in August 2024 became really massive. In January 2025, they joined the "Sergey Pritula Foundation" with the pure sky.

By the end of March 2025, the military published videos of interceptions of more than 2. 5 thousand Russian UAVs of different types. Ukrainian servicemen say that in 2023-2024 Russian intelligence drones dominated in the sky because of a large number. Artillerymen could hardly fire, because after the first shot, the Russians noticed a position and soon fired it.

Thanks to the "anti-aircraft" FPV-Drome, the situation has improved significantly in favor of Ukrainians, it is much easier to use artillery. In addition, reconnaissance UAVs are less likely to circle over the rear areas, so it became safer to move personnel and use important equipment, such as air defense systems, radar systems, aerodromes.

In April 2024, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was introduced by Ukrainian UAV-Kamikadze with an X-shaped wing, reminiscent of "Lancet", among other things, to intercept the reconnaissance drones. However, the price of such long-range ammunition is much greater than the widespread interceptors. The "Come back alive" fund noted that only FPV-oules themselves are not enough to systematically fight Russian intelligence drones.

The military also requires cars, communication systems, power and night visions to use them. UAVs are also needed by the systems of ordinary and specialized small antitrone radars that were built by the state. Thanks to them, the fighters find goals, bring in them interceptors and confirm the lesion. By the way, the state drones themselves began to buy the state for the army relatively recently.

In September 2024, the Bild journalists spoke with several Ukrainian military and found that the program of drones will develop in three stages: the first two stages are already actively implemented. Whereas the third stage began to be implemented in April 2025. The first interceptors to use the Ukrainian military were the usual FPV, which simply flew to the target detected by the means of radio electronic intelligence.

However, the experts later began to upgrade the copyers for interception, they found the optimal structures, fragile combat parts with the exploration system, communication systems, and batteries. Often, such drones were equipped with digital camcorders, which on the one hand provide better image quality, but on the other, more vulnerable to the action of the HRB. The image quality was more important because the Russians began to mask their reconnaissance planes.

In addition, "anti -aircraft drones" run further from the front line, so it is more difficult to suppress them. Ukrainian manufacturers began to develop not only FPV copter but also aircraft drones. Experiments with multiple aircraft capable of using different weapons in flight are conducted. Foreign companies began to offer their options. At the end of 2024 - early 2025, systems for intercepting Russian shock drones began to appear.

In particular, it is quite exotic, such as balloons, equipped with FPV. In April in Ukraine, the first unit specializes in the intercepted Shahd anti -aircraft drones. "Anti -aircraft" copters have limited range and speed of flight, because of which Russian drones can escape. The battery charge is enough for only a few minutes of flight, so many crews have to be used to cover a certain area of ​​the front.

The copter also cannot lift heavy combat units, sometimes Russian UAVs such as Zala are experiencing a hit. Aircraft interceptors are much more expensive, and they are less maneuvering and require longer pilots training. However, larger in size, they are able to fly faster and further. As for the interception of "Shahmed", the biggest problem was their high speed. This requires enough prudent and shunting interceptors with a large radius of action.

Such UAVs can also knock down enemy screws and drones of the operative-tactical level of the "Forpost" type. "Anti-aircraft" drones began to be actively used against small mavic-type reconnaissance drones and even FPV-aroma with optic fiber. For the destruction of such purposes, conventional FPV-Kamikadze is used with the help of information from small radars and electronic reconnaissance remedies, and more complex models, armed with rifles or reticles.
