A possible US attack on Iran: the Russian Federation explained whether Tehran will help weapons and soldiers

To spread: Russia is not obliged to provide Iran's military assistance in the event of an attack by the United States. The Strategic Partnership Treaty does not create a military union of the two countries. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andriy Rudenko during a statement in the State Duma on ratification of the Strategic Partnership Agreement with Iran.

On April 8, the State Duma of Russia at a plenary session ratified the Treaty on a comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Iran. The document envisages the expansion of comprehensive partnership in defense, the fight against terrorism, energy, financial sector, transport, industry, science and technology. The contract has been in force for 20 years with the possibility of extension for another 5 years.

Rudenko stressed that Russia's strategic partnership with Iran is not a military union of the two countries. However, Moscow, for its part, will take all measures to resolve the conflict, the official explained. "The conclusion of the contract does not mean the formation of a military union with Iran and does not provide for military assistance to each other," Rudenko said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry was recalled of Article 3 "On the failure to provide military or other assistance to the aggressor" if they attack Russia or Iran. However, the contract has other articles on the development of military-technical cooperation between countries. "Such cooperation is actively developing," the official emphasized.

The Strategic Partnership Treaty should play a stabilizing role in the Middle East, facilitate security in neighboring and Iran regions of Caspia, Caucasus and Central Asia, summarized the Deputy Minister. Rudenko also said that a possible US attack on Iran is threatened with unfortunate consequences for the entire Middle East. The Russian Federation wants to avoid such a scenario and does not want to get involved in another conflict.

"But, yet, really, there are such opportunities and think that everything you need will be done by our government," Rudenko said. The Kremlin, for its part, maintains direct negotiations between the US and Iran on the nuclear program. Russian Presidential President Dmitry Peskov said Moscow is a supporter of "diplomatic settlement" of the problem. Russia is ready to assist in the negotiations of the US and Iran, added to the Foreign Ministry.
