The system was first represented on May 21, 2021 and became an important milestone for the Corps of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution (Quir), which developed weapons within a broad program of modernization of the Armed Forces. During the exercises "The defenders of the sky 2023", which took place from November 5 to November 7, 2023, the 9-Dey system successfully intercepted and destroyed several assigned goals, demonstrating its effectiveness and accuracy.
Experts say that 9-Dey is a mobile short-range air defense system, optimized to defeat low-flying goals. It has an effective range from 5 to 30 kilometers and a flight ceiling of 20 kilometers, which allows it to hit a wide range of threats from different distances and heights. It is based on the same 6x6 chassis as the Sevom Khordad rocket complex.
However, it has a configuration of the starting installation: two blocks of four missiles provide eight rockets ready for launch, unlike three missiles in Sevom Khordad. The 6x6 chassis used in 9-Dey is a local copy of the MZKT-6922, originally designed for the Russian Buk-M2E complex. But the Iranian version is shorter with the front of the engine and lateral access to electronic systems.
A key feature of the 9-Dey mobile complex is the use of the same radar technology as the Sevom Khordad installed in the front of the machine. The Sevom Khordad air defense system, which is the most important component of the integrated air defense network of Iran, is equipped with a complex radar with a phase S-band lattice installed in the front of the machine.
