US drones are not suitable for war with Russia: a military expert revealed the reason

US companies are not yet able to release UAVs massively, so they will not replace cheap Chinese quadcopters. American drones will not help Ukraine win the war because they are not suitable for the fight against Russia. Austin Gray, a former US Navy Intelligence Officer, and now developer at the drone factory, wrote about it in The Wall Street Journal.

On August 6, the President of the Yorktan Institute and the former Deputy Deputy Minister of Navy US Seth Kropyi said that US UAVs needed Ukraine to compensate for the shortage due to new China's export restrictions. In his opinion, allies should establish drones to provide Ukrainians with an advantage in the sky. "Failure to comply with this requirement almost guarantees that Russia will take a mountain," the analyst said. "The US must act immediately.

" Drone manufacturers in the West seek to compete with DJI and other Chinese firms. In this regard, he suggested that the US authorities include quadcopters produced by US companies in military aid packages. Austin Gray denied his colleague and drew attention to a big problem: the forces of Ukraine's defense need cheap "disposable" UAVs, and in the USA they do not release such massively.

US companies supply drones to government agencies and businesses, so the cost of advanced models starts at $ 16,000. At the same time, some defense and technical manufacturers transferred their drones to the Ukrainian military, and after a few months of trials it turned out that aircraft could not work perfectly on the battlefield.

Currently, the US does not produce civilian drones for a mass market worth only a few thousand dollars that could replace the DJI Mavic 3 used by both Ukraine and Russia in hostilities. According to Austin Gray, the Pentagon or the Ministry of Commerce cannot buy cheap quadcopters, since countries do not produce enough. However, the authorities are able to induce US companies to establish mass production of such equipment.

Seth Kropya added that the event cannot support Ukraine by joining the war, but can provide it with the necessary equipment. Unmanned aviation complexes play an important role, because Ukrainian artillerymen allow more precisely to shoot and spend much less ammunition. According to expert calculations, without drones of the Armed Forces requires not 120-150 thousand, but about 500 thousand shells per month plus more than 1000 guns.

From September 1, China has imposed restrictions on drones through war in Ukraine. Suppliers will have to receive licenses and prove that they do not sell drones for use in hostilities. Export control will affect civilian quadcopters, such as DJI Mavic 3, which can fly more than half an hour and lift loads. Ukrainian expert Valery Yakovenko told how China's restriction will affect the war in Ukraine. In his opinion, control will lead to a sharp rise in price and shortage of cheap Chinese drones.
