Russia seduces India by the Amur-950 submarine: what is special in the submarine
As reported on August 8 by The Eurasian Times, the potential of the submarine, taking into account its capabilities, is clearly represented for the Navy of India. The Amur-950 Diesel-Electric Submarine 677E is a modernized version of the Lada submarine, which has long established itself in the Navy of different countries due to low acoustic signature and high reliability. "Amur-950" has a displacement of 950 tons in the surface position and 1300 tons in the underwater.
The length of the vessel is 56. 8 meters and the width is 7. 2 meters. Underwater, the boat can develop speeds of up to 20 knots and has a range of swimming up to 350 nautical miles using an air -extinguishing power plant (AIP). The novelty will be equipped with 10 vertical mines for Brahmos missiles, as well as four 533 mm torpedo devices that can carry up to 16 torpedoes, missiles or mines. It is this opportunity that will be very interesting for the Indian Navy.
The fact is that the installations allow the boat to make powerful volley punches for several purposes at the same time with the help of Indian missiles, which makes the submarine a formidable weapon in the struggle with both marine and terrestrial enemy objects. In this regard, the observers write that special attention is drawn to the possibility of using the Amur-950 submarine for the needs of the Navy of India.
The fact is that India already operates seven submarines of the Lada class, which were acquired in Russia in the late 1980s and have repeatedly modernized. And as part of the project 75i, aimed at updating the Underwater Fleet of India, the Russian Federation suggested that the Indian partners have to design and build new generation submarines equipped with Brahmos missiles.
AMUR-950 representation at the Army-2024 exhibition, observers, demonstrates Russian ambitions in promoting their underwater technologies to the international market and strengthening military-technical cooperation with India. Given that India has already developed a Brahmos missile to run underwater platforms, such a submarine can be an important element of the country's defense strategy.
