Activists, historians and locals staged a toloka to explore the ancient cemetery...

"The Russians were definitely not": in Vinnytsia region they found a cemetery with crosses of 16-18 centuries. (video)

Activists, historians and locals staged a toloka to explore the ancient cemetery, journalists said. In a few hectares, trees were cut and tombstones cleared with the inscriptions about the Ukrainians who once lived here. Participants of the Project "Old Cemeters of Ukraine" found several dozen graves hidden in the forest near the village of Netrebivka in the Tomashpil district of Vinnytsia region.

When they began to release the crosses from the plants that were dug, they saw a skull carved with bones. Similar images indicate that Ukrainian Cossacks are buried here. About the cemetery, on which the inscriptions of the 16-18 centuries were found, told on the TSN portal. The reporting of the journalist Valery Kuznetsov refers to the toloka, which was staged by activists of the project in June 2024.

Activists found an unknown Orthodox burial: it was overgrown with trees and shrubs and crosses with tombstones were barely visible. From a dozen volunteers reached Netrebivka, several cars were fitted for garbage removal and began to clear the territory: men were cut trees, women - collected branches and released from greens. The estimated burial area is several hectares, the journalist told.

The stone crosses have inscriptions dated 1857, but there are marks that are 200 years old more, to hear on video. The historian and founder of the NGO "Ukraine Incognita" Roman Malenkov explained that the inscriptions on the crosses indicate that in this territory there was no dominance of the Russians in ancient times. Similar burials in the south, where the ancient graves with Cossack crosses were found.

On the page of the project on the ancient cemeteries, which is taking care of NGOs, it is stated that they are trying to find Cossack burials, which stood abandoned since the time of the Russian occupation. "There was never a confirmation that the Russians have never been in this territory if we take the south where the cemeteries are preserved with the Cossack crosses," he said. One of the activists, Bogdan Chernyshov, showed a cross on which the date was knocked out - 1857.

It shows a skull with bones: according to the young man, it means belonging to the Cossacks. At the same time, he is wondering why not all crosses have such marks. A local resident, historian Galina Melnyk, noted that the opening of the burial can change the view of the past of the settlement. The tombstone was found a date - 1667. According to her, this may mean that the village is 200 years older than it was considered.

The activists of the project have created an online map, which marked the ancient cemeteries and crosses found in the search, is reported in the report. It should be noted that the map can be found on the portal "Ukraine Incognita": it has 846 marks. The burial grounds in the Tomashpilsky district were also told about the Burial in the Tomashpil District. It should be noted that in July 2023 the media spoke about the results of excavations in the Dominican Monastery in Vinnitsa.

Archaeologists dug up to the layers in which the Cossacks were found. Among them are the remnants of the old oven, utensils and stones of pets. We remind that on August 2, the mayor of Odessa Trukhanov conducted a survey in which he asked Odessa about the names of streets related to the time of the USSR and the Russian Empire. At the same time, he did not mention the Cossacks-Nerubayev, who lived there before the arrival of the empire and mined a stone for the construction of the city.
