Reach Moscow: France intends to create a medium -range rocket in response to "Orezhnik"

Analysts say that it is a small rocket, the range of which will allow to destroy objects deep in the Russian Federation. However, French engineers will have to create technologies from scratch. France studies the possibility of developing a new medium -range ballistic missile capable of striking targets at a distance of more than 1000 km.

This decision was a reaction to the growing role of ballistic missiles in modern conflicts, in particular, to the use of Russia by the so -called Orezhnik missile to strike on the Dnieper. About it reports the French edition of Challenges. The project is under discussion between the Director General (DGA) and the Armed Forces Command.

The rocket is expected to run from the ground launcher, it will be able to actively maneuver at the terminal stage of flight and means of breakage of anti -missile defense systems. These plans supplement the development of a winged landing rocket with a similar range of Land Cruise Misael as part of the Elsa project. France views such a rocket as a means of strategic restraint, which could be a response to Russia's demonstration of medium -range ballistic missile.

Commenting on the news, Defense Express reviewers noted that the rocket range - 1000 km - makes it universal for use in various scenarios. When launching from the territory of the Baltic countries, the rocket can affect objects in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. And the use of Poland will also allow you to get to the Russian capital.

In this case, a shorter range compared to intercontinental missiles provides more compact size, which reduces the cost of development and production, and also allows to increase the number of combat units. However, there is a considerable way between the concept and the real embodiment of the project.

The thing is, experts say that France has not developed ballistic complexes of land base since the Pluton program in the 1960s and 1970s, which will require the creation of many technologies from scratch. "Moreover, there are simply no other developments in Europe, or especially ready ballistic missiles with a range of more than 300 km, everything is - American ATACMS," the observers summed up.
