In exchange for weapons: Trump may require Zelensky to reduce the conscript age to 18 years - Time

According to journalists, for Vladimir Zelensky the decision to reduce the mobilization age is a "red line" and can become "politically fatal". US President Donald Trump can insist on reducing the age of mobilization in Ukraine under 18 years in exchange for military assistance, and his peace plan will require territorial concessions, writes, the British edition of The Times.

Ukraine can only receive more US weapons in exchange for the introduction of conscripts for men from 18 to 25 years, British journalists say. They point out that for President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky this issue is a "red line". "Zelensky defended his youngest men from a conflict that depletes its limited force. The evasion of conscription is widespread because there is fatigue from the war. The extension of the conscription period can be political for him," the authors of the article write.

In addition, the material states that Donald Trump's peace plan may provide for territorial concessions to the aggressor, in fact, "passing the fifth part of the country. Instead, the maintenance of unclealed lands should be the placement of peacekeeping troops from the US and Europe in Ukraine.

For Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was betting on a quick victory, this option of completing the war would be a strategic defeat, but it could be issued for victory if the captured lands remain under the control of the Kremlin. According to journalists, the 47th President of the United States should use the "whip and gingerbread method" to both parties, because neither Ukraine nor Russia intends to simply retreat after huge losses.

This approach was manifested in Trump's post on the social network Truth Social on Wednesday on January 22, in which he urged Putin to end the war. At the beginning, the US president assured that the Russian people loved it, always had a good relationship with Putin and did not want to harm Russia, and after threatened with additional sanctions and restrictions in case of refusal to make concessions.

"Russia's vulnerability to new economic wars remains uncertain, but there is no doubt that its economy is under heavy pressure, since fake official data is unable to hide real inflation in the range of 16 to 30 percent and a huge burden on public finances, which is manifested by reduction privileges to war veterans, "the authors of the material noted.

We will remind, on January 15 the People's Deputy "Servant of the People" and a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security Alexander Fedienko told that they think in the Verkhovna Rada to reduce the age of conscription in Ukraine. According to him, the people's deputies did not prepare such laws, and Western partners should provide the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces before demanding the mobilization of 18-year-old Ukrainians.
