According to the EU Council, the trade in military materials will be a criminal offense not only if it is intentionally committed, but also in the event of serious negligence. In the European Union, the idea was to make a proposal for punishment for bypassing sanctions. Persons who assist Russia bypass these sanctions can be sentenced to five years in prison. The EU Council reports.

"The Spanish presidency in the Council and the European Parliament has completed the negotiations on the EU law, which imposes criminal offenses and punishment for breach of EU sanctions. This directive guarantees that those who violate or circumvent the EU sanctions will be held accountable," the statement said. It is noted that this is of particular importance in the context of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.

The law stipulates that Member States will have to qualify certain acts as criminal offenses. These include: incitement, aid and incitement to these crimes will also be punished as a crime. The trade in military materials will be a criminal offense not only if it is deliberately, but also in the event of serious negligence.
