The solution to the "Russian question": in ISW explained why Lavrov spoke of genocide

According to analysts, in Russia they try to prepare their citizens for a long war with Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declares a threat from the West and Ukraine, accusing them of genocide to justify the military aggression of the Russian Federation in the eyes of the Russians. This is stated in the report of the Institute of War Study (ISW) of January 18.

"Lavrov accused the event of creating a coalition of European countries to use Ukraine as a puppet in the war aimed at resolving the" Russian question ", as well as Adolf Hitler sought a" final solution "to eradicate the Jewish population of Europe," ISW said.

Experts believe that such analogies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation tries to convince the internal audience that the Russian-Ukrainian war is as vital to them as the invasion of Nazi Germany into the USSR during the Second World War. The report states that in this way the Kremlin is preparing their citizens for a long war with Ukraine. To this end, Lavrov equates the desire of Ukraine's allies to defeat the Russian Federation to the genocide of the Russians.

The ISW called a similar rhetoric of the minister "ridiculous", indicating that official Ukrainian persons and their Western partners did not declare their intention to invade the territory of the Russian Federation. Lavrov also continues to insist that Moscow will not have a dialogue with Vladimir Zelensky, arguing that the event in Ukraine is responsible for making decisions.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called the "nonsense" the statement of Western officials about the need to participate in the negotiations of Ukraine. It should be reminded that on January 18, during the event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the breakthrough of the Leningrad blockade, Vladimir Putin stated that the Russian Federation started a war in Ukraine to finish it.
