According to NASA, which appeared on Sunday, November 24, when Russian astronauts opened a hatch of the ship, they felt an unexpected smell and saw small drops.

After that, it was decided to close the hatch of the "search" module, which separated it from the rest of the space station. NASA dispatchers reported that the quality of air inside the ISS is at a normal level. According to the newspaper, perhaps in NASA, slightly diminish the seriousness of this incident.

According to Anatoly Zaka's statement, who writes about space on an independent site of Russian Space Web, in fact the smell revealed by astronauts at the ISS was toxic. Because of this, Russian astronauts immediately closed the hatch of the Progress MC-29. According to Zaka, Russian astronauts worked protective equipment after revealing the unpleasant odor and activating an additional air purification system in the Russian ISS segment.

At the same time, NASA astronaut Don Pettit, who was in the US ISS segment, reported that he smelled like a smell of paint sprayed in the air. NASA stated on Sunday that there is no threat to the ISS crew and astronauts are working to open a hatch between the search module and a freight spacecraft. In this case, all other operations are performed on the ISS in full -time mode.

The search module is connected to the Russian module "Star" since 2009 and is a small design that is used to join spacecraft and exits into the open space in the Russian part of the ISS. It is not known exactly what caused the odor coming from the MC-29 progress ship, but probably the leakage of fluid from the ship's cooling system occurred. Earlier, Russian spacecraft already had such origins.
