Trench trenches and gave up fortifications: the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are awaiting the counter -offensive of the Armed Forces in 4 directions (photo)

The locations that have recorded satellite images make it clear what Russia expects from the counter -offensive and what means of defense the defense forces of Ukraine may face. For many months, Russian invaders have built a defense in the captured Ukrainian territories in anticipation of the future counter -offensive of the Armed Forces. The BBC satellite analysis revealed extensive defense structures that Russia has built since October 2022.

They make it clear what defense means of Ukraine's defense may face. In Crimea this year, instead of attractions and lounges, the beaches are decorated with "dragon teeth" - defensive structures that the occupiers have acquired to prevent the Ukrainian counter -offensive. Concrete blocks in the form of pyramids stretch at 25 km. Behind them were trenches that provide cover from offensive attacks. There are also several bins along the trenches.

Some military experts suggest that fortifications are most likely a preventive measure, not a sign that the Russian Federation is waiting for Ukraine's attack from the sea, since the latter has a small naval potential. "The fortifications are probably designed to restrain any bold Ukrainian attack on Crimea," says intelligence analytics Leila Gest. The city of Tokmak in the Zaporizhzhia region is located on a key route in the southeast of the country.

If the Armed Forces is attacked in this direction, they will be able to cut Crimea from other territories controlled by the Russian Federation. Russian invaders built 2 trenches here north of Tokmak here - in the direction from which Ukraine could step. These trenches have erected another ring of fortifications around the city with 3 layers of defense. The occupiers also have anti -tank ditches about 2. 5 m deep. There are several rows of "dragon teeth" and another network of trenches.

It is likely that the area between the three Tokmak defense lines is replaced, according to the expert of the Center for Strategic and International Studies Mark Kancian. "Minnie fields are a standard part of any defense, and the Russians have been widely used throughout the war. The replaced areas can be large and better hidden here to slow down Ukrainian attacks as the artillery and infantry will be able to repel attack forces," he said.

The BBC also found that 3 other cities near Tokmak were strengthened in a similar way. The highway E105 passes from the Belgorod region through Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson region to the Crimea. The road E105 connects Russia -controlled Melitopol in the south with Zaporozhye, which is controlled by Ukraine. The party that controls this route can easily move troops in the region.

The line of anti-tank moats and trenches of the invaders runs along a 35-kilometer section of the E105 route west of Tokmak. If the Armed Forces try to use this road, the Russian Federation will fire them from heavy artillery from the lines of its defense. "The Russians are concerned about recently created Ukrainian armored vehicles. If these units are able to reach the main highway, they will be able to move very quickly.

The Russian strategy is to push them from roads and thus slow down," says Mark Kanchian. Russia expects Ukraine to try to win the Mariupol Port because it holds a strategic position between Russia's occupied territories in the east and Crimea in the south. Around Mariupol, Russian invaders drew lines of round trenches. They are located 55 km north of Mariupol near the village of Rivnopil.

The trenches arranged in a circle allow the soldiers to hide and move the artillery so that it can target in any direction. This indicates that the Russian Federation is preparing to protect open areas that do not have natural protection, such as hills and rivers, along with their wider network of trenches. However, many analysts have come to the conclusion that the Armed Forces can bypass many of these defense structures.

"Therefore, the Russians will probably try to direct the Ukrainian forces with certain routes that are tightly replaced and aimed at Russian artillery," says Alexander Lord, a representative of the strategic consulting firm Sibylline Ltd. We will remind that in the Zaporizhzhya direction Russian invaders conduct active defense in the Novopavlovsky and Orikhiv directions. On the territory of Belarus, 20 kilometers from the border with Ukraine were noticed by the Dragon Teeth.
