All about the war with Russia: the Ministry of Education will release new textbooks on the history of Ukraine

Next academic year, high school students will study the history of Ukraine on new textbooks, which will specially supplement the section on the war with the Russian Federation. In September 2024, 11-graders will receive history textbooks that will set events in Ukraine after February 24, 2022. Educational materials on a full -scale Russian invasion of the territory of Ukraine for teachers will be available in October this year.

Teachers will also receive printed "How to talk about war with students", which contain recommendations for communicating with students of all ages. The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovy reported it on the air of the Teleterna "One News".

The Minister of Education also said that the issue of awareness of students and teachers about the war contains three consecutive steps: according to the Minister of Education, in history lessons it is not enough to simply list the dates and events. Teachers should strive to convey to the younger generation the complexity of historical decisions made and the importance of understanding the past through understanding the causes of the events that have taken place.

"It should be a narrative teaching, a meaningful perception of history by students, it should encourage understanding of historical events and actions of historical personalities," Oksen Lisovy emphasized. The head of the Ministry of Education said he would like to completely rewrite textbooks on the history of Ukraine and review the approach in teaching. This ambitious plan will require careful examination and retraining of the pedagogical composition.
