GUR hackers made the most powerful in the history of cyber attacks on Russian providers: what are the consequences

At the end of May, the experts of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine carried out a large -scale cyberattack, which resulted in at least 250 thousand subscribers in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, in particular in Crimea without connection.

The attack touched both the networks of subscribers and networks of operators who used the affected infrastructure. Sources in special services reported this focus. Representatives of Russian providers say that this is the most powerful DDOS-attack that they have ever encountered. Thus, Ivan Zima, CEO of one of the Russian communication operators, said that it took 16 hours to recover from the providers. A significant number of subscribers remained unrelated for more than 48 hours.

According to the sources of focus, one of the most affected providers became the Telecom operator "Miranda-Media", which in the occupied territories works under the brand "Mirtelecom". Its subscribers not only lost their connection in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions and in the Crimea, but also could not pay for services due to the defeat of the bilingual system.

In addition, the losses of the Russian provider "Farline", in particular in the Crimea, have been affixed. Representatives of Russian providers have complained about difficulties in communication with subscribers while recovery. People refused to provide their contact data by fear of fraud. In addition, 20% of subscribers refused to modernize the equipment, although it should protect them from such attacks in the future.

Providers also had to involve hundreds of additional specialists, in particular for the processing of numerous appeals of outraged customers. The interlocutor of Focus emphasized that such attacks continued in June. Miranda-media networks, as well as propaganda media outlets, local occupation authorities, contact centers, registration and traffic control systems, resources and network airport infrastructure and payment systems were again hit.
