Chinese Storm Shadow Competition: What is the interest of AKF98a's winged rocket (photo)

The Air-Earth rocket has a unique housing with a multifaceted front for less radar. And the range of flight, according to some reports, reaches 500 km. China demonstrated on the air show in Zhuhaya the latest winged AKF98A aerial base, which is distinguished by improved stealth technology and high flight range. According to the developers, the rocket is able to impress highly protected goals at considerable distances, providing a strategic advantage in the breakthrough of hostile defense.

On November 6, Bulgarian Military Viewers were told about the new system of missile weapons of the PRC. According to the authors of the material, the rocket has advanced characteristics that can be compared to Western counterparts such as AGM-158 Jassm and Storm Shadow. AKF98A is distinguished by a unique body shape and a multifaceted front part, which significantly reduces its radar visibility (RCS).

The polygonal nose of the rocket helps to reject radar waves from the source, complicating its detection of enemy radar systems. This allows AKF98A to approach the purposes unnoticed, especially important quality for modern combat conditions, where the enemy uses powerful air defense systems. The rocket has sliding wings that remain hidden before running and minimize the radar section in flight.

Compared to complex wings on the Western analogues, the sliding wings AKF98a make it possible to increase its secrecy at the time of storage and use. The rocket is equipped with a turbojet engine that provides it with considerable range and speed. Although the exact range was not officially disclosed, military analysts estimate it up to 500 km. This allows AKF98A to affect the goals in the depths of the enemy territory, beyond the air defense.

This range also allows you to maintain the safety for the carrier, which is especially important in modern combat conditions, where there is a high risk of detection and interception. It is noteworthy that AKF98A is equipped with a combined guidance system that covers the Chinese Beidou satellite system and inertial navigation (INS) at the initial flight stage.

In the terminal phase, the rocket uses a radar or infrared search, which allows it to effectively hit both stationary and moving goals with high accuracy. Such multi -level management enables AKF98A to act in interference and electronic suppression, which makes it competitive compared to Western weapons.
