This increases the chances of survival of the carrier and reduces the risk of detecting the enemy. SIAW will detect and attack hostile missile complexes, artillery batteries, excess ships, air basements, as well as air defense systems. One of the features of the rocket is its ability to find the target, using the signals that it generates itself, not just the signals derived from the target. This increases its efficiency in conditions where the target is hidden by obstacles or works in radio mode.
The project, according to military experts, is a response to the increase in danger from Russia and China, which seek to develop a dense integrated air defense system (IDPO). Currently, three major US defensive companies are operating on SIAW: Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and L3harris Technologies. They received contracts from the US Air Force for the development of the concept and the demonstration of technology for a new rocket.
It will be based on the technology of Aargm-ER rocket (Advanced Anti-Radiation Guidated Missile-Extended Range), which was created by Northrop Grumman and US Navy to fight against radar systems of the enemy. However, SIAW will receive a number of modifications to adapt to the requirements of the US Air Force and expand the range of target goals.
